With the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL defeating the 2012 Royal Bank Cup champions Sunday evening, they become the final entry into the inaugural Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup.  They are joined by the host team Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL, the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL, the Yorkton Terriers of the SJHL and the Steinbach Pistons of the MJHL.
GDI trained goaltenders Corey Koop, Zach Rakochy, and Dawson MacAuley will take part in the tournament.
The tournament kicks off in Nanaimo, BC on Vancouver Island on April 27th and runs through May 5th, with the top 2 teams earning spots to represent Western Canada at the Royal Bank Cup, the National Championship of Junior A hockey in Canada.  The RBC Cup is being held in Sommerville, Prince Edward Island this year, and runs from May 11th through May 19th.
In the BCHL,  as of the last CJHL/NHL Central Scouting rankings, the Surrey Eagles defeated # 7 ranked Penticton.  The unranked Steinbach Pistons defeated Dauphin, in the SJHL, the # 5 ranked Yorkton Terriers defeated # 9 ranked Humboldt, and the # 1 ranked Brooks Bandits defeated the Spruce Grove Saints in the AJHL.  The field looks to be highly competitive for this new round robin format where the four Western Canadian provinces send their league champions plus a host team to the tournament.  The 2014 host team will be the Dauphin (Manitoba) Kings.
