The Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League had the game of the year for the season thus far as the Southwest Cougars took on the Winnipeg Thrashers in Sunday afternoon battle.

The game had both goaltenders competing to the best of their ability. Brenden Fiebelkorn for the Winnipeg Thrashers stopped 49 of 52 shots. Fiebelkorn was consistent throughout the game and fell only to the Cougars powerplay as they went  3 for 9, scoring once per period. As the Cougars threw on a strong attack from the start of the game, the Trasher netminder shut down several scoring chances including an open turnover at the blueline that led to a clear cut breakaway on net. One of the most noticeable aspects of the game was both goaltenders intellectual ability to handle the puck. Both teams looked to push a strong forecheck and each goaltender was able to calm the other teams offense attack as they played the puck with poise and patience.

The Cougars netminder, Brian Archibald, stopped 30 for 33 and was awarded the games first star for the victory. In overtime Archibald displayed an outstanding compete level as he stopped several sure goals and wide open chances.

Both GDI Prairies goaltenders are veterans within the league as they play their last year of Midget AAA, and both look to help their team to a championship year.  For more on the game results Click Here.
