Finalists for the MJHL’s six major awards have been finalized, Commissioner Kim Davis announced today.

“Each team submitted a nominee for the awards and the league’s 11 coaches subsequently conducted a vote,” explained Davis. “Each of the finalists should be very proud of their accomplishment.”

The respective winners will be announced later this week. The Mike Ridley Award, given to league’s top point producer, will be known when the regular season comes to an end.

GDI Goalies Troy Martyniuk and Matthew Thiessen both found their names nominated twice!

Troy Martyniuk of the Winkler Flyers has been nominated for the MJHL League MVP award as well as the Top Goaltender award! In his final season Martyniuk has appeared in 46 games so far with a record of 27-18-0-0. He has also posted a GAA of 2.72 and Sv% of .913. He's also recorded 3 shutouts this season.

Matthew Thiessen of the Steinbach Pistons has been nominated for the MJHL Rookie of the Year award and Top Goaltender Award! Thiessen has been enjoying a strong rookie season with a record of 25-3-1-0. He currently leads the league with a 2.03 GAA and .924 Sv%. Thiessen has 2 shutouts on the season so far.

Martyniuk has been training with GDI since we opened through 1v1 Lessons, Summer Camps and the G1 Off-Season Program. Thiessen has been training with GDI for years through 1v1 Lessons and the G1 Off-Season Program. He is also a graduate of the RHA Nationals prep program.
