Zac Robidoux heading down the highway to Lethbridge
GDI Goalie Zac Robidoux has been traded from the Medicine Hat Tigers to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The Lethbridge Hurricanes acquired 1996-born goalie Zac Robidoux from Medicine Hat in exchange for a 3rdround pick in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft as well as a conditional 4th round pick in 2017.
In watching Robidoux play, Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager, Brad Robson says “he’s a big goalies that is aggressive and gives you a chance to win; he also plays a sound positional game.”
At 6’3 and 210 pounds, Robidoux was the Tigers 6th round pick (124th overall) in 2011. The native of Morden, MB played with the Portage Terriers in the MJHL last season. In 27 games he posted a 17 and 9 record with a 2.19 GAA and .924 save percentage. Robidoux had playing time with the Tigers and in three games was 2-1 with a 2.27 GAA and .891 save percentage.
Acquiring the 18-year old gives the Hurricanes another veteran presence and depth at the goaltending position.

GDI Instructor Joe Caligiuri named goaltending coach for the Dauphin Kings
Joe Caligiuri came to the Kings for the 2009-2010 RBC Cup season after 3 seasons in the WHL. In 61 regular season games Caligiuri posted a 2.59 GAA and .909 SP%. Joe was instrumental in getting the Kings to the RBC Cup Final that year and was awarded Playoff MVP for his efforts. Upon graduating from the Kings Joe went on to play for the U of M Bisons and to study law. This season Joe will come on board to assist the coaching staff as a Goaltender Coach.
“Squid was such a good kid to coach. Mild mannered and did what ever was best for the team. Him and Willows were a helluva 1/2 punch. He was an excellent goalie and the way he played in the MJHL finals was overlooked because we swept. He was fantastic in that series against the Saints.”

Total GDI Off-Season Academy
This past week was the final week of the Off-Season Total GDI Academy. It was a busy summer for all the goalies who were a part of the academy. From the 7am PSM circuits, nightly tactical sessions and the countless 1v1 lessons, GDI academy students were put to the test all summer. With a goaltenders performance on the ice being the main area critiqued and evaluated across Western Canada, GDI Goaltending has created a goaltending academy that incorporates all on-ice aspects that will take the aspiring athlete to new heights. Covering all 4 developmental domains within the position, Physiological, Psychological, Technical, and Equipment, GDI provides each goaltender with the resources they need in order to advance as the season approaches. Through this academy goaltenders will be able to advance their potential, year by year, through each level of the program eventually leading them into the pro ranks. GDI would like to wish all the best to the Total GDI Academy students as they head into their training camps for the upcoming hockey season.
