Backed by goalie Ty Edmonds' best game of the season, the Cougars earned their first points of the season against a B.C. Division opponent in front of a crowd of 2,401, improving their record to 5-4-0-0 with a hardworking win over the Giants, who dropped to 4-3-0-0. Edmonds' save off Russian import Dmitry Osipov at the tail end of a third-period Giants' power play was nothing short of scintillating. The waiting is over for Jason Kasdorf. He didn’t enjoy that waiting much. The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute junior goaltender is back after playing only two games last season and missing the rest of the campaign following shoulder surgery. He’s the keystone in RPI’s hopes to improve upon last season’s seventh-place finish in ECAC Hockey and more end the Engineers’ inexplicable string of homeice series defeats in the ECACH playoffs. Kasdorf hit the RPI lineup for good midway through the 2012-13 season and sparked the Engineers to a second-place finish. He had a 14-5-2 record, 1.62 goals against average and 93.5 saves percentage. He was 12-2-2 in ECACH games, stopped an amazing 94.5 percent of the shots he faced and allowed just 1.39 goals per 6 minutes. Appert outlines why, beyond his outstanding skills, Kasdorf will almost certainly be a successful big-league netminder. “He has the swagger and confidence of an elite goalie or an elite athlete,” Appert said, “combined with the work ethic and humility of just a wonderful human being. He just has a real good balance of that. A lot of guys have the swagger and they don’t have the humility. Some guys have the humility and work ethic but they don’t really have the belief and confidence. He has a good mix of both. At the end of the day, his work ethic and his family and who he is at his core. “He’s (also) a pretty calm and composed man,” Appert said. “He’s an incredibly hard worker, incredibly driven and he had a great summer.” For the full article Click HereKasdorf has been training with GDI for the past 5 years, from his time with the Portage Terriers to being an NHL draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets. Kasdorf regularly attends 1v1 lessons and is a part of the Total GDI Academy during the off-season which includes 3 ice times a week with a 1v1 lesson, PSM circuit and GDI Tactical session.______________________________________________________________________________________Junior A News
