Hughson Posts A Shutout in Spitfires Debut
It was a storybook start for goalie Garret Hughson’s career with the Windsor Spitfires.
Waived through the Western Hockey League and picked up by the Spitfires in a trade with Niagara for a 15th-round pick, the 20-year-old Hughson made 28 saves in his debut Thursday to record the shutout in a 3-0 win over the Flint Firebirds before 4,378 at the WFCU Centre.
“He delivered tonight and not in an easy situation,” Spitfires head coach Rocky Thompson.
Hughson last played a game Oct. 10 when his Spokane Chiefs lost 5-4 in overtime to the Everett Silvertops. Four days later, Hughson was released and his journey to the OHL began.
“It’s a little tough, but you’ve got to battle through and get the first win,” Hughson said of waiting for his chance with the Spitfires. “Windsor’s a very structured team and good to play on. We played a good game and got stronger.”

Edmonds A Star Against The Rockets
Ty Edmonds was key for the Prince George Cougars in a major win over the Kelowna Rockets.
Edmonds turned aside 30 shots as the Cougars beat the Rockets 2-1.
"Edmonds has got the best of the Rockets a few times before. This was his fourth first-star performance — and third at Prospera Place — over the past two seasons. He also shut out Kelowna 3-0 in Prince George a couple weekends ago, before stealing two more points from the B.C. Division leaders on Friday, ending a three-game winning streak for the Rockets (9-5-0-0)."“These guys always have a tremendous team and it’s fun to play against them, especially when you win,” said the 19-year-old goaltender from Winnipeg. “The guys that are great players . . . you get up to play against them and they make you better. Getting a lot of shots, it definitely helps me get into it.”
“He definitely stole one for us here tonight. Without him, we would’ve been in trouble,” added O’Brien.
