Make sure you stay sharp throughout the spring with GDI 1v1 lessons. The month of April is starting to fill up for 1v1 sessions at the centre. We are open from 3:30pm-9:30pm during the week and 10:00am-2:00pm / 3:00pm-7:00pm Saturdays and 10:00am-3:00pm Sundays. Petit Named WHL Goaltender Of The Week, Nominated For CHL Goaltender Of The Week

GDI Goalie Mario Petit has been recognized by the WHL and CHL for his play so far in the first round of the WHL Playoffs. The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips) announced in conjunction with the Western Hockey League that goaltender Mario Petit (Peh-TEE) has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for his performance ending Mar. 27. Petit has been nominated for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Petit, 18, helped guide the Silvertips to back-to-back playoff wins to open their first round series against the Portland Winterhawks last week with a 2-0 record, one shutout, a .981 save percentage, and 0.50 goals-against average. He recorded 53 saves on 54 shots in that span. In a 3-0 shutout victory over Portland in game one, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound goaltender was named first star of the game and became the second netminder in Silvertips history (first since Leland Irving in 2005-06) to record a shutout in his WHL Playoff debut. Petit followed up with a 24-save effort in game two on Saturday, a 3-1 Silvertips win, and held Portland scoreless over the final 57:54 of play. Petit, in his first WHL season, registered a 3-3-4 record, 2.80 goals-against-average and .883 save percentage in 15 appearances with the Silvertips. Tyler Brown was a force to be reckoned with during the opening round of the Western Hockey League playoffs. After dropping game 1, Brown and the Pats stormed back and won the next four games to win the series. Brown finished the series with a 4-1 record to go along with a 2.00 Gaa and a .935 Sv%. Brown also posted two shutouts in games 3 and 5 to clinch the series. Next up for Brown and the Pats will be a second round matchup with the Memorial Cup hosts, The Red Deer Rebels.

Newton Named SJHL Goaltender Of The Week

GDI Goalie Brenden Newton has been named the SJHL's goaltender of the week! The Sasktel SJHL Goaltender Of The Week is 1997 G Brenden Newton (Medicine Hat AB) of the Flin Flon Bombers.  Newton won all three starts and posted a 1.67-GAA and .955 SPCT for the week as he led his team to a five game series victory over the Weyburn Red Wings.  Newton entered the series in the middle of a game one loss and went on to post a 1.32-GAA and .964-SPCT in the series. Douglas Leads Hounds To Telus Cup Western Regional

  GDI Goalie Tanner Douglas found another level of play for the Notre Dame Hounds in the playoffs. Tanner Douglas Notre DameTanner Douglas and the Notre Dame Hounds are off the the Telus Cup Western Regionals after defeating the Tisdale Trojans in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Championship series. Douglas made his playoff debut in the second round against the Regina Pat-Canadians. He was instrumental in the Hounds' sweep of the Pat Canadians. Douglas played all 3 games turning aside 95 of the 98 shots sent his way. After defeating Regina, Douglas and the Hounds were off to Tisdale for a date with the Trojans in the championship series. Douglas appeared in 4 of the 5 games for the Hounds in the final series posting a record of 3-1. In the end, Douglas finished the playoffs with a 6-1 record to go along with a sparkling 1.98 GAA and an impressive .939 Sv%. Douglas also posted one shutout during the playoffs making 40 saves in the semi-finals. Douglas and the Hounds will now head to Saskatoon for the Telus Cup Western Regionals. Joining the Hounds will be the host Saskatoon Contacts, Kenora Thistles and the Winnipeg Wild. GDI Goalies Mitchel Adamyk and Matt Radomsky will be participating with the Winnipeg Wild. The Telus Cup Western Regional will kick off on March 31st.
