Dezy Grabs First Win With P.A:

While many players may have spent time gobbling up a turkey dinner goaltender Andy Desautels was capturing his first victory with the Prince Albert Raiders. Stopping 26 of 29 he was able to help the Raiders sit at the top of the East Division early on with 13 points, three above Brandon and Swift Current. Desautels teams up with Luke Siemens this year between the pipes. Both goaltenders have shared a common bond as they both played previously for the Everett Silvertips, which in turn has helped them compete together early on in the season.   _____________________________________________________________________________________________________

MJHL Report:

Over the weekend the MJHL Showcase took place along with the MJHL Evaluation Camp for the World Junior A Challenge. After a long Showcase weekend the Manitoba Junior Hockey League conducted a one-day evaluation camp. Forty top players from across the league attended, with most players being 18 years of age. The purpose of the camp is to give the players a chance to highlight their skills with an opportunity to attend the World Junior A Challenge Selection camp hosted by Hockey Canada on October 28th in Calgary.

Goaltenders attending are:

  • Adam Iwan – Portage Terriers
  • Zach Rakochy – Steinbach Pistons
  • Spencer Tremblay - Waywaysseecappo
  • Byron Spriggs – Winnipeg Blues
All of the four goaltenders selected have trained with GDI Prairies extensively over the last several years in Midget and through Junior. The World Junior A Challenge (WJAC) 2012 will be held in Yarmouth, NS from November 5 – 11, 2012. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tip's Earn First Win As Lotz Pushes Aside 34:

Even though he is new to the Town of Virden, Grade 11 student Ty Edmonds has made a huge community contribution. 16 year old goaltender, Ty Edmonds of the Virden Oil Capitals has been named the Manitoba Pork Peak Performer of the Month for September. For two full weeks in September Ty has worked on the ice with goaltenders in the Virden Minor Hockey School. He did all of this community work while preparing for several Manitoba Junior Hockey League games and all the while moving from Winnipeg to a new town and new high school. The MJHL and Manitoba Pork are proud of the contribution Ty Edmonds has made to his community. _____________________________________________________________________________________________

Krahner Begins First Year Pro With Mississippi:

Longtime GDI goaltender Matt Krahn is currently preparing for his first year of pro. In the coming weeks Matt's new home will be in Mississippi as he looks to play with the Riverkings this upcoming year.   Training at GDI and Elite Performance over the past couple of months he is looking to start the season with a confident demeanor. Along with his gym sessions and one-on-one training ice times he is also playing once a week on the large ice surface in The Rink Training Centre Pro and College 3v3 games. Krahn was near the top of the MJHL for statistical categories for several years. In his rookie year with the Portage Terriers he captured the MJHL Championship. Leading on from there he went on to achieve the the MJHL's top goaltender and 1st Team All-Star in 2011. Worthy to note Krahn played in the 2011 World Junior A Challenge as he helped Canada West advance into the Semi-Finals and finish in 4th place. GDI Prairies would like to wish Matt all the best in his venture to the SPHL.   _____________________________________________________________________________________________________
