WHL rookie goaltender Ty Edmonds (1996 – Winnipeg, MB) has been named to Team Cherry of the 2014 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, which will be played on January 15th in Calgary, AB. Edmonds is among 13 WHL players chosen for the event, and is the only WHL goaltender selected to participate. In 26 games this season, Edmonds has a record of 9-9-1-2 with a goals-against-average of 3.44, a save percentage of .901 and two shutouts. His two shutouts have him tied for the WHL rookie lead. Originally selected in the ninth round (186th overall) by the Prince George Cougars in the 2011 Bantam Draft, Edmonds has flourished in his rookie season. In early October, he was named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week during the week ending October 6 after posting a 2-1 record, a goals-against-average of 0.34 and two shutouts. “As an organization we are so proud of Ty and his accomplishments so far this season,” said Prince George Cougars head coach Mark Holick. “This honor is well deserved, and we look forward to seeing what he can do in the Top Prospects Game and for the Prince George Cougars as we move forward.” The 40 CHL players competing in the game were chosen by the 30 NHL clubs and divided into teams by NHL Central Scouting and include 20 players from the Ontario Hockey League, 13 players from the Western Hockey League, and seven players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
